The six foundations

Registration confirms that ASQA was satisfied your organisation could meet the Standards for RTOs when it assessed your application. From your first enrolment, the test moves to daily practice: whether the RTO delivers quality training, assessment and support for every student, and whether its leaders can show how they know. This playbook sets out the six foundations that high-performing RTOs put in place early.

1. Governance and accountable leadership. Clear ownership, recorded decisions and leaders who can see what is happening.
2. A working self-assurance system. The RTO monitors its own performance, finds problems early and fixes them.
3. Training and assessment quality. Delivery matches the training and assessment strategy, and assessment judgements hold up to scrutiny.
4. Trainer and assessor capability. The right people, with the required credentials and current industry skills, confirmed before they teach.
5. Student support and outcomes. Accurate information, suitable enrolments, support that exists in practice and results you measure.
6. Operational systems and records. Data, records and evidence that are accurate, retrievable and independent of any one person.
